Other Info[edit | edit source]

  • This is first ever Disney movie to be dubbed into Arabic.
  • It was going to be the only Disney movie in Arabic until The Lion King (1994) was dubbed into Arabic.
  • When the Walt Disney Company first decided to come across the Middle East with their classic full-length movies, they decided to dub those movies in Egypt with the Egyptian dialect because Egypt was considered as the Arabic Hollywood of the Middle East, and they started with Walt Disney's classic film "Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs" in 1975.
  • Though the movie is dubbed in Egyptian Arabic, the Queen speaks in Standard / Classical Arabic, as well as all people talking to her. This way, the Queen sounds more formal, serious and solemn.
  • Ratiba El-Hefny, the singing voice of Snow White, was chosen by Disney to be the first song director in the history of Walt Disney's Arabian dubbings. Lots of girls were refused by Disney for the role of Snow White, so Ratiba El-Hefni then decided to record herself and send it to the Walt Disney Company under a nickname.

Other Info:[edit | edit source]

  • According to the newspaper "Kristeligt Dagblad" from July 1938, only three actors were supposed to voice the six dwarves : Sigurd Langberg, Aage Foss & Victor Montell. It seems that decision was changed afterwards.
  • While the Kristeligt Dagblad and the Theater Booklet mention "Aage VOSS", the Billed-Bladet and 1938 Press Material mention "Aage FOSS". The first one is a 30s Jazz Musician, the second one an actor. Certainly a typo, it seems to be Aage Foss; but needs confirmation.

  • The first French dubbing was made in Hollywood, USA, because the dubbing process was taking too much time.
  • Beatrice Hagen, the singing voice of Snow White, was actually not French, but American.
  • Another French dub might have been made in 1938, in France this time, starring the voice of Irène Hilda as Snow White, and Lita Recio - Cruella de Vil - as the Evil Queen.

  • Lucie Dolène, the voice of Snow White in the second dubbing, sued Disney France in 1996 for the copyrights and royalties on her voice, and won; generating the creation of a third dubbing for the 2001 release.
  • To audition, Rachel Pignot - Snow White's singing voice in the 2001 dubbing - sent a cassette of her recording My Own Home (La Maison Sous Le Chaume), Shanti's song. She sang this one because the song is performed by Lucie Dolène in the previous French version, and she wanted to be original by not picking one of Snow White's songs.
  • Rachel Pignot was very worried to take over Lucie Dolène, and it was a honor and pleasure for her to dub this role. She auditionned for the speaking parts as well, but unfortunately Disney France judged her voice too infantile for the character.
